Summer of 2012 Newsletter

The 2011 Tunbridge Worlds Fair had a great turnout in spite of Hurricane Irene. Permanent signage, recognizing contributions for the new foot bridge, was put in place for the 2011 Fair. Also two new portable bleachers were purchased by the Friends with another one through a private donation and all were used during the Fair. We thank you for your past support.

In 2012 the Friends have two projects underway.

  • A replica of an antique ice cream maker (5 gal) will be mounted on old wagon wheels and powered by gasoline. This is expected to be ready for this years Fair and will be located on Antique Hill.. Stop by for some homemade ice cream.
  • The original Orange County Fair advertising banner, approximately 7’ X 5’ and dated 1858, has been conserved and will be displayed in the barn on Antique Hill (center doorway). Originally the Fair location alternated between Chelsea & Bradford. In 1867 the Fair moved to Tunbridge. The banner was donated by the Chelsea Historical society. Be sure to visit.

Tax Deductible contributions to help with these projects may be made to FTWF Inc. PO Box 159 Tunbridge VT 05077 or via our website.

On Saturday, May 12th, the third annual Fairground Community Work-Bee was held. Tasks included painting, log cabin inventory and building a ramp. Lunch was provided by the UAS.

At the Tunbridge Memorial Day Celebration the Friends sold Duck Race tickets near the plant sale, library and on the fairgrounds. The Board Members of the Friends marched in the parade with an enthusiastic duck. Tickets continue to be available from board members.
